During my time studying graphic design at the Art Institute of Dallas, i was able to take some elective courses that interested me. One of my favorites was Book Arts. In this class, I learned about folios, binding, paper...all the stuff I totally geek out about! One of my favorite projects I did on my own is called a star book. I did lots of research, planned out the dimensions I wanted and chose a subject I thought was really cool: wallpaper. :) I did a study and printed examples of the styles of wallpaper and how they've evolved over the decades.

The final result is a sweet little book with engaging tactiles that you don't even realize until you open it up to it's full potential! Check out the dramatic display of my Wallpaper | Then & Now star book:

Each section includes an intro, an individual folio for that decade printed with examples of the many colors and styles of wallpaper used during that time period, and then my sources of books I used to reference them. There are many tutorials on Pinterest and YouTube to learn how to create a book of your own - go check them out!

Below is an image of a collection of books that were mostly projects from the class I took. My many years of scrapbooking really worked to my advantage in this class. :) If you love working with paper and can sew a little, you can master this lost art. If you have the time, find a class to take or sign up for one online. Hope you enjoy it!
